professionalizing the work of outreach (external engagement, communication, education)

excerpt from Joshua Kim's blog discussion of Behavioral Economist, Richard Thaler's latest book, misbehavingbook.org

Even though Kim uses his own field of learning technology and infrastructure as the subject of the professionalization process, the same comment applies to the process of encouraging, guiding, and recognizing excellence in the field of outreach (emphasis added).


The idea is that learning technology is in the process of transitioning from a professional practice to an academic discipline.  Learning technology is developing a set of theoretical frameworks, a consistent set of methodologies, and a recognized community of practice. We have a language, a professional identity, and a research agenda.
